Have you ever been given advice especially by an elderly person but, you didn’t heed the advice completely and you were told that you are stubborn?

OR,

Have you ever given someone advice and the person didn’t seem to heed it and you feel like the person is stubborn?

I have witnessed both scenarios, And eventually, the person who gives advice tends to stop caring to give advice just because, they didn’t seem to listen.

From witnessing these scenarios(and sometimes being a player in them), I realised that, sometimes, some people are not being stubborn. Just that they don’t feel like that particular advice would work, and that isn’t from a “know-it-all“ standpoint as some might conclude, but due to the fact that the giver and the receiver of the advice are not in the same spot neither are they wearing the same shoe, neither do their wants align.

The results of the advice given, if implemented, might not be the result that the receiver is looking for. The position of the giver of advice is not the same as the position of the receiver.

This position includes: The time, The desires, The vision, The perspective,The space, and The expectations of both parties, Which, is certainly not the same.

From where the two parties are standing, The View is different, so are the goals too. Therefore, same formula might not really work.

So my point, Dear Reader, is to consider both Positions: Giver and Receiver, before giving out advice. Put yourself in the receiver’s shoe, try to understand their vision and expectations concerning the matter before giving them advice.

Truth is, no matter how old or wise anyone is, we all will always need counsel as we journey through life, but it doesn’t mean that every counsel received will be entirely useful.

I hope you can relate to this post and I hope that you remember it whenever you’re giving advice.

Yours,
